I’m excited for baseball season–I always am. Last night the Twins played the Red Sox as the preseason wraps up. It was the first time I saw Nishioka hit and I was thrilled that Morneau is back in the lineup. I don’t know who the Red Sox preseason announcer is, but I sure liked hearing him say “Cawo Cwafode” instead of Carl Crawford, “Rahn Gah-denhiya” for the Twins’ GM.

But it wasn’t the first time my team took the field yesterday. No, yesterday I also played a game of Dave Anderson’s Round the Bases, a fantastic cribbage variation that combines our national past-time with a little 15-2. Like cribbage? Like baseball? Read on. Continue reading →

Cribbage on Twitter

Cribbage on Twitter is funny

Though over 400 years old, one of the most exciting aspects of this curious game is how new media like Facebook, Twitter and blogging give the game a whole new agency. There are several cribbage groups on Facebook–if you’re a member, check ‘em out! You can access the general interest page or see what’s happening on eCribbage.com’s Facebook site.

I think Twitter is where it’s at, though–the online chat about cribbage is funny. You could do a lot worse than seeing who is saying what about the game. And cribbage players are social, right? Say hi when you feel comfortable. Which leads me to this:

Starting the hashtag/conversation #cribbagetweetoftheday. When I see good ones, I’ll schedule them for future retweets (essentially a copy-and-paste for non-Twitter folks). Every few weeks I’ll post the best ones here. Check back soon or follow me on Twitter!

A Giant’s Game

Andre the Giant

In a recent post, I said a few exciting things were developing. This is one of them.

Though Andre is no longer with us, he was–by every single account I’ve heard–a wonderful and passionate man. In the next week, I’m speaking with someone who was closer to Andre during the height (7′ 4″) of his career than anyone else. And what do you think he did when he wasn’t wrestling?

That’s right–he played cribbage. Can you imagine what those little pegs looked like in his massive paws? I’m about to get a closer look–more to come.
